Should all UK teens have to do community service?

yes no

Get Involved

G-Nation works with young people throughout the UK to show them how they can change the world by giving.

It‘s a website, it‘s something you can do in school, but most importantly it‘s what you do outside of school that matters and if you want to make some changes out there in the big wide world,  then G-Nation can help you make a start and give you some pretty useful directions too...

Some official info:

G-Nation is part of the Citizenship Foundation, a partnership between charities and the government aiming to develop the culture of giving and the issues of citizenship in the UK. It works in harmony with a schools programme for 11 to 16s, and includes the celebratory G-Week in June. Your school may be involved- if it‘s not, see if you can persuade them.

That‘s the official stuff - what does it all mean?

Who runs the world? Who gets a say? How does a society end up a warm and welcoming, or cold and lonely place?

It‘s simple. People, like you, have to make choices on how they respond to others who are having a hard time, whether in your local community or in other countries.

Some people just look out for themselves- but that‘s not how most people want the world to be. Young people, in particular, want it to be different. Most young people believe in giving to those less fortunate than themselves, and most support the work of charities (we know- we did the research!). But there‘s a huge amount of peer pressure and most young people find it hard to stick their necks out and make a noise about something that they believe in.

What needs to happen is a shift in people‘s frame of mind so that it‘s seen as OK to give. We‘re not saying everyone has to be a saint, just do their bit in the way they can. That‘s how big changes happen, when everyone is up for making a difference.

So this site is all about getting involved. There is always something going on- in schools, in the media, in clubs, on your computer screen. G-Nation tells you where to go to get in on the action and lets you speak to others who are putting their energy into something positive.

We don‘t want your money and we‘re not trying to make anyone feel guilty. You don‘t have to spend all your time talking about charity here- just make friends, play a few games and swap ideas. Hang out and see what happens.

You‘ve got the power to make the world the way you want it!
