| Helenswood is an all girls, split site school from 11-18 years that Specialises in Peforming Arts.
Helenswood has always been very orientated towards fundraising and supporting charities as far back as anyone can remember, and for some that is pretty far. This was very true when Dame Sheila Wallis was Headmistress from 2006 to 2008. She was very similar to Princess Diana, and was very keen on fundraising.
Over the past 3 years Helenswood has raised over £35,000 for local and National charities!!!!
This year we have Mrs Monk as our headteacher, who is just as set on fundraising as Dame Sheila, or perhaps more, if this is possible! There are lots of schemes that are just starting to form and going into action for charity, which we believe will raise more than ever before.
Helenswood is very good at organising Charity events and all students are very dedicated to and enthusiastic about fundraising, and often come up with brilliant ideas for bringing in ’the cash’.
Helenswood has always worked well with the community, combining strengthening friendships between schools with fundraising for charity, with THE SHOW being a prime example. One of our aims is to reach out more into the community and help others more within the community.
Helenswood is often inviting Primary schools to Helenswood for sports day if they don’t have their own sports field, and basically runs the day and looks after the little ones. All girls have a very caring attitude, and each year some elderly people are invited to a Christmas party hosted by the girls. They are presented with christmas gifts, are fed and are sung to, and for both Pupils and Elderly is a very rewatding, memorable night.
Every year Helenswood organised THE SHOW (hand in hand) at our local theatre: The White Rock, and involves most schools in Hastings and Rother, each putting on a performance in order to fund raise for Sierra Leone and Demelza House Childrens Hospice. THE SHOW had been run for several years, and each time a HUGE success.
Mrs Monk, presented Demelza House Children’s Hospice and Sierra Leone Friendship Link with cheques amounting to £14,000 which were raised from THE SHOW at the White Rock Theatre in July 2008 and other events at a Dance off with other schools.
Our Federal Sixth form, a partnership with William Parker School for boys, which proves very rewarding in fundraising. Not only do they particpate in THE SHOW and run sporting activites for charity with the younger students of Helenswood, they also raise an awful lot when many of them run in the man auctions raising hundreds in under an hour. |
