School is out for summer! Entry to the Giving Nation Awards 09 has just closed (Monday 20th July) and we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all our brilliant fundraising, campaigning, volunteering and enterprising schools!

The G-Nation team and judges are about to spend the summer searching through your incredible online diaries for this years awards winners!  

The quality and dedication to charity and community action has been AMAZING this year so we‘re in for a tough time! We‘re looking forward to congratulating a new round of incredible young charity fundraisers, social entrepeneurs, volunteers and camapigners from September 2009.

Thousands of young people in 431 UK schools took up the Giving Nation Challenge this year, using their business brains to come up with enterprising ways of raising money to support the charity or community cause most important to them.

Giving Nation Awards Trip to Cameroon

In April 2009, the charity team (called the Citizenship Club) at Rushcliffe Comprehensive School set out on an exhilarating and educational journey through the Cameroon rainforest. National winners of the 2008 awards, they spent one week experiencing first-hand the work of environmental charity, the Rainforest Foundation to protect the rainforest and the rights of people who have lived in the forest for thousands of years.

In October 2008 42 young charity activists from 8 UK schools travelled to London to be presented with Giving Nation 2008 awards for outstanding charity and community action.  In 2007-8 the teams of students the winning UK schools raised a staggering £140,000 combined!

 

Following a fun tour of Westminster the ceremony at HM Treasury followed where charity teams were joined by ministers, MPs, charity representatives and even a TV crew from ITV to be presented with their awards. The awards recognise their commitment to fundraising and giving time and voice to 120 charities and hundreds of local, national and international campaigns.

 

Latyah Meets Gordon Brown!

In September 2009, one of our very own Giving Nation TV Challenge particpants, Latyah McArthy won a Peace Award for promoting peace amongst young people in her community through Open Mic nights. Thanks to her achievements she was even invited to tea with the prime minister!
